Prices of urad and other pulses dropped by up to Rs 650 per quintal at the wholesale market today owing to considerable fall in demand from retailers at prevailing levels.
Marketmen said fall in demand from retailers at current levels amid government's measures to curb rising prices and improved supplies in the market, too kept pressure on urad and other pulses prices.
In the national capital, urad plunged to Rs 7,000-8,000 from previous level of Rs 7,050-8,650 per quintal. Its dal chilka local, best quality and dhoya were down by Rs 200 each to Rs 7,300-7,400, Rs 7,400-7,900 and Rs 7,800-8,100 per quintal, respectively.
Arhar and its dal dara variety also drifted down by Rs 200 each to Rs 6,000 and Rs 7,900-9,700 per quintal, respectively.
Malka local and best quality too finished lower at Rs 6,300-6,500 and Rs 6,400-6,600 as against last close of Rs 6,300-6,800 and Rs 6,400-6,900 per quintal.
On the other hand, rajmah chitra moved both ways on alternate bouts of buying or selling and finally settled at Rs 6,500-8,500 as compared to previous level of Rs 6,000-8,900 per quintal.
