No cheesy robbery this! Greedy thieves in the US state of Florida have stolen a trailer filled with USD 85,000 worth of mozzarella cheese that was meant for a popular pizza chain.

The multiple tonnes of shredded mozzarella, enough cheese for tens of thousands of pizza pies, was reported stolen from a parking lot near Summerfield, Florida.

The cheese was bound for the Hungry Howies Pizza distribution center in Lakeland.

The refrigerated tractor packed with the cheese was left at Hubbard's Truck Parking. The driver of the rig left the trailer at the parking lot on Saturday evening while he had the hauler checked by a mechanic, according to Marion County Sheriff's Office reports.

The driver was traveling with his girlfriend, both of whom are from the Michigan area, which is where the pizza chain has its headquarters, The Ocala Star-Banner reported.

The woman drove by the parking lot to check on the trailer and noticed it was missing, reports state.

Officers investigating the missing trailer learned that a 2007 USD 130,000 Kenworth hauler also had been reported stolen from the same lot and presumably was used to take the trailer.

The trailer stolen is valued at an estimated USD 62,000, according to reports.
