The teachers of the Jadavpur University today criticised the Vice-Chancellor, Abhijit Chakraborty's action of calling policemen into the campus to break the gherao, saying he has no moral right to continue at the post.

"There has been many such instances in the past where a vice-chancellor has been under gherao for even more than 50 hours, but we have not allowed the police to come to the campus. He has no moral right to continue in the post anymore after the students were injured," Nandini Mukherjee, joint secretary of the Jadavpur University Teachers' Association (JUTA), told PTI.

Members of the union also met Governor K N Tripathi, who is the Chancellor of the university, during the day and apprised him of the situation.

She said they would hold a general body meeting of all teachers tomorrow where it would be decided whether they were in favour of VC Abhijit Chakrabarti's resignation.
