Vehicle-lifter held

An alleged vehicle-lifter active in the Delhi-NCR region has been arrested and five stolen bikes recovered from him, police said today.

Jaan Mohammad, a resident of Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, was nabbed last night from Sahab Nagar Gate of Modi Nagar area after receiving a tip-off, police said.

"Acting on the tip-off, we put barricades and started scanning vehicles. He was arrested when he came. He has confessed his involvement in a number of vehicle-theft cases," a police officer said.

Mohammad told police that he and his accomplices used to steal bikes in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon and sell them in different cities by changing their registration plates, the officer said.
 

Police are now interrogating him about his accomplices to get some leads about their hideouts, he said.
