Veteran freedom fighter dies

Veteran freedom fighter Vishnu Dayal Gupta died following prolonged illness at a hospital here, family sources said today.

He was 91.

Gupta breathed his last yesterday at Rural Institute of Medical Sciences in Saifai where he had been admitted a couple of days ago, they said.

The deceased, basically a resident of Feelkhana near Kanpur, was living here with with his younger daughter.

He is survived by two sons and three daughters.

Gupta had taken an active part in the freedom movement and was also jailed during the period.

His cremation was scheduled for later today, the sources added.
