Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today asked students of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER) here to assess the needs and requirements of villages through frequent surveys and document their findings.
A release from the office of the Lt Governor said the Lt Governor lauded the institute for evolving and implementing several revenue generating programmes such as promotion of poultry, cultivation of fodder and augmenting meat production.
She was reviewing the steps taken by the Institute to rectify the deficiencies she noticed during her last visit to the government owned institute on November 22.

She suggested that the education tour programmes of the institute's students should be directed towards taking them to northern parts of the country instead of southern pockets so that they could have coordination with 'reputed veterinary institutions in the north'. This should also be followed by visits to sanctuaries, she felt.
The release said the Lt Governor urged the staff and students of the institute to conduct 'shramdhaan' every week on the premises to maintain cleanliness.
