Vijayakant exempted from personal appearence

The Madras High Court today dispensed with the appearance of DMDK founder Vijayakant before the courts at Tirunvelveli, Sivaganga and Tiruvallur districtsn in connection with the defamation case filed against him by Tamil Nadu government.

A Division Bench, comprising, Justices V Dhanapalan and C T Selvam, which passed the order on a petition filed by the actor-politician, said Vijayakant need not appear before the trial courts in these three districts until further orders.

In the defamation cases filed against Vijayakant, Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly, on behalf of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, these courts had issued notices for his personal appearance.
 

Vijayakant had challenged all the notices in the High Court.
