Vijayraman stuns 3rd seed Sachin in junior tennis nationals

Sachin was the biggest upset of the day as Vijayraman stunned him 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to make it to the next round.

Fifth seed Tejas Kapoor was the next big casualty of the day with Sumit Pal Singh sending him packing with a 6-2, 6-0 win in another first round under-16 singles match at the RK Khanna Tennis Complex.

Top seed IB Akshay from Tamil Nadu handed a 6-0 6-2 thrashing to Parikshit Somani while second seed Delhi boy Vishnu B Prasad joined him in the second round with a 6-1 6-2 win over Priyavat Mehla.

In another match, 12th seed Udayan Bhakar had to dig deep before beating Deepak Singh 6-7(8) 6-3 6-2.

 

Fatehdeep Singh from Punjab demolished Shrey Gupta 6-0 6-0 while Delhi boy Garvit Batra got the better of 10th seed Gagan Sharma 6-1 4-6 6-2.

Sixth seed Deepak Vishvakarma had an easy opening set where he did not let Rahul Yadav win a single game but then had to battle hard in the next before advancing into the next round with a 6-0, 7-5 win.

In the girls under-16, Jahnvi Gupta won 7-5 6-3 against GS Vasavi while Eeshita Pande blanked Vineeta Singh 6-0 6-0.

Nandini Sharma got the better of Isha Budwal.

In the boys under-14 singles, top seed BR Nikshep had an easy opening round as he thrashed Abhimanyu Vannemreddy 6-0 6-0. Mingkhi Talom, who also competed in the boys under-18 singles Nationals last week, beat J Oges Theygo 6-4 6-3. MORE
