BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta today appeared before Privileges Committee of the House in connection with his article allegedly favouring "abolition" of Rajya Sabha and sought closure of the matter, saying his apology over the issue has been accepted by the Upper House Chairman.
Gupta responded to the breach of privilege charge claiming that Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari has already accepted his apology in the matter and there is no ground for continuing the proceedings in this regard.
The proceedings of the Committee were also open to the media.

Earlier this year, Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel had forwarded Gupta's matter to the House Privilege Committee following Rajya Sabha Chairman asking him to take appropriate action in the matter.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman had acted on a complaint by JD(U) MP K C Tyagi, who accused the BJP MLA of casting aspersions on the members of Rajya Sabha.
Gupta said he was being "targeted" by the AAP government since he is "exposing its misdeeds".
"AAP government is harassing me because I am raising their misdeeds. They are trying to snub Opposition in the Assembly by targeting me," he said.
