Village talathi arrested for graft

A village Talathi who allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a villager was arrested by ACB sleuths here.

Talathi Prabhakar Chowdhari, 45, of Khutghar in Sahapur taluka was arrested yesterday while receiving the bribe money, DSP ACB-Thane Division Datta Karale said.

Chowdhari had demanded the sum for a work regarding lease pendency of the complainant's agricultural land in the village.

Offences under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988 have been registered against the Talathi with the local police station.
