Two alleged thieves where beaten to death by locals after they were caught trying to steal a goat at Pichili village, about 20 km from here, police said today.
A group of five thieves had stolen two goats from Jahatu and Sikridih villages and made an attempt to steal a goat at Pichili when the villagers caught hold of three of them and beat them up black and blue last night, Deputy Superintendent of Police Bachandeo Kujjur said.
Two of the thieves-- Deepak Mahto and Zoya--were lynched to death while one Sonu sustained serious injury, he said.

Sonu was rushed to M G M Hospital here, the DSP said.
Kujjur said Mahto, a resident of Kharswan in adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district, had three-four criminal cases including burglary, registered against him.
Two other accomplices managed to escape, he added.
