Batting legend G R Vishwanath today called upon the Indian cricketers, who are participating in the ongoing Pepsi Indian Premier League, to help conserve tiger.

"With IPL happening around this time, I think all players should step in to do their bit for tiger conservation," Vishwanath said at the inauguration of the "Save The Tiger Cup" inter-club tournament here.

Viswanath, who scored a century in Test debut against Australia in 1969, said he is happy that cricketers like Sandeep Patil, Harbhajan Singh and Yusuf Pathan have been the inspiration behind the "Save The Tiger Cup" tournament.

"Day-by-day we are losing this magnificent animal. Alarmingly, the tiger numbers have fallen below 1,500. There is a need for everyone of us to do something before it vanishes from our forests," said the avid wildlife enthusiast, said.
