The ruling National Conference (NC) today said voting for NC-Congress alliance candidates would mean strengthening secular forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Voting for NC-Cong alliance would mean strengthening secular forces in Jammu and Kashmir. We seek the people's decisive verdict against reactionary and fascist elements," NC provincial president Devender Singh Rana said at joint meeting of the alliance partners in Udhampur district today.

"We have to foil the ugly game-plan of opportunists who have joined hands to destabilise the state by creating divisions among the people and vitiating the atmosphere," Rana said. He cautioned people against the "unholy and undeclared" BJP-PDP alliance.

The game plan envisages exploiting the public sentiment by inciting passions and flaring up frivolous issues. "These two parties have been working overtime for a long to generate ill-will among the communities in order to polarise the situation," he said.

The NC leader expressed happiness over senior Congress leader and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad contesting the elections from the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat and said his participation has infused renewed vigour among the people.

He said efforts of Azad in sanctioning four medical colleges for the state, two of them in Kathua and Doda districts, have rekindled hope among the youngsters desirous of pursuing medical education.

The joint efforts of the NC and Congress in transforming the development landscape of the state has become eyesore for the opponents, who see little role for their parties in the overall political spectrum of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Frustrated with the prospect of imminent defeat they have resorted to intrigue and deceit," he said while predicting big defeat for BJP and PDP.

The NC leader described Azad as a multi-faceted leader who has been enjoying excellent rapport with the National Conference leadership. "We have galvanised our party units across the region to facilitate big win for Azad and Madan Lal Sharma (candidate from Jammu)," Rana said.
