Wage unified war against drugs: Sukhbir

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today called upon the Center and other state governments to wage a combined war against the drug trafficking in the country.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the National Youth Festival at Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) here, he said that to safeguard the younger generation from the drug menace, the war against narcotics should be waged as a national mission.

He batted for more stringent laws against the illegal supply of drugs and ongoing cross border smuggling in various parts of the country.

He said that supply of drugs from neighboring counties posed a serious threat and it should be addressed urgently to "save our future generations".
 

"India being a comparatively younger country with maximum youth population," Sukhbir emphasised that the youth must be empowered so as to involve them in nation building task and their energies be channelized in constructive activities, instead of drugs and other social aberrations.

The National Youth Festival was jointly inaugurated by Sukhbir and Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Jitendra Singh in which more than 5000 youth from various states and union territories are participating in different sports and cultural activities.
