Press Trust of India New Delhi
India today asserted its support to Bangladesh's judicial process to address the war crimes committed during the independence movement of 1971.

"India has been supportive of a judicial process under the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh to address the pending issue of justice for war crimes committed during the movement for the independence of Bangladesh in 1971.

"The ICT process to bring the perpetrators of war crimes to justice has wide popular support in Bangladesh. It is also an internal issue of Bangladesh," External Affairs Ministry Vikas Swarup.

Bangladesh has been criticised for carrying out death sentences to many of the war crime accused with many countries including the US describing the ICT as "very flawed" and a means of political retribution.
