Water from Aliyar Dam was today released for irrigation in Old Ayacut area in Pollachi in the district.
Local Administration Minister S P Velumani, who released the water, said 800 TMC of water will flow during 120 days till January eight next benefiting the farmers in Aliyar, Kottur, Anamalai and Pollachi Old Ayacut area.
He also said works at a cost of Rs 250 crore were in progress for implementaiton of Avanashi Athikadavu project.
Similarly, the government had taken efforts to desilt the ponds and lakes and the silt (vandal) was being given to the farmers so that they got healthy soil for cultivation, Velumani said.
State Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman, Valparai MLA Kasturivasu and District Collector T N Hariharan were among those present on the occasion.
