Yuvraj Walmiki scored a late winner to hand Delhi Waveriders a hard-fought 2-1 win over Dabur Mumbai Magicians in a league match of the second edition of the Hero Hokey India League at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, here today.

The win consolidated the Waveriders position at the top with 24 points from seven games, while the Magicians are still in search of their first win in the tournament. The Mumbai outfit has managed to garner just five points from as many games.

The Waveriders started the match as clear favourites but took time to get their pieces together.

The first quarter was relatively actionless as the two outfits struggled to gain control over the proceedings.

But the Waveriders slowly started to gain their footing in the match and took the lead in the 20th minute through Akashdeep Singh, who found the back of the opposition net with a reverse hit after being fed by Lloyd Norris Jones.

Barring just a few tries, the Magicians dominated the third quarter, bringing into action Waveriders custodian Nicolas Jacobi on more than one occasion.

The Magicians finally drew level in the 49th minute through captain Glenn Turner who scored with a rebound after the initial try was kept away by Jacobi.
