Launched by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Kanyashree Project was getting adequate response with the state government receiving a large number of applications for incentives and scholarships.
Under cash incentive scheme of this project launched by the chief minister, it assures an annual scholarship of Rs.500 per annum to the girls who are in the age group of 13-18 and in classes between VIII and XII.
Lauding the response the project received, state's Information Secretary Atri Bhattacharya said that they have received 5.7 lakh applications so far, of which 50,244 applications have been approved.

Under another scheme in this project Rs. 25,000 would be provided to the girl students on completion of 18 years of age as one-time assistance for attending Formal, Open School, Recognized Vocational Training Course.
The state government has so far received 27,387 applications under this scheme, of which 2,705 have been approved.
The project was launched to empower women and make them self-reliant.
Over seven lakh bank accounts have been opened under Kanyashree Project initiated by the state government, he said.
