Wheat prices edge higher on increased offtake

Wheat prices went up by Rs 20 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today due to increased offtake by flour mills.

However, other grains held steady in thin trade.

Traders attributed the rise in wheat prices to pick up in demand from flour mills.

The government Tuesday hiked the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat by Rs 110 to Rs 1,735 a quintal to encourage farmers to boost area and production of these crops, also influenced wheat prices.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) rose by Rs 20 to Rs 1,810-1,815 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 1,820-1,825 per 90 kg.
