Taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the claims made by him in his election speeches, the Congress today asked when will he talk to China showing his "red eyes".

To a question on China objecting to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's visit to Anurachal Pradesh, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "We are waiting and the country is thinking when will Modi ji talk to China showing red eyes, as he used to speak in his big speeches earlier."

Sitharaman yesterday visited forward army posts in remote Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh bordering China to take stock of the defence preparedness.

The Congress leader said Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and will remain so and no foreign entity has any power to raise objections to our defence minister's visit to the state.

On China mulling a 1,000-km tunnel to divert Brahmaputra water from in Tibet close to Arunachal Pradesh to the parched Xinjiang region, he asked, "When will India wake up and take action?"

Surjewala asked whether the Modi government will take action after the Brahmaputra river water is diverted and its waters stopped by China as it is planning to build the tunnel.

He said the government should raise the issue bilaterally or at the international fora as such a step by China will thwart the economy of India's northeastern states which lie on the banks of the Brahmaputra river.
