Wid boar carcass found in Bhitarkanika

A carcass of a wild boar was seized by forest officials from the house of a suspected poacher at Rajnagar block within Bhitarkanika National Park area here, forest officials said today.

Acting on a tip off, the house of one Ajaya Pradhan was raided in Barakola on Wednesday and boar carcass and 14 kgs of meat seized, Divisional Forest Officer of Bhitarkanika National Park, Kedar Kumar Swain said.

Pradhan managed to leave the village before the forest officials arrived and a search is on to nab him, he said.

The department has intensified vigil on poaching activity with the constitution of anti-poaching squads to keep round-the-clock watch.
 

Stray cases of wildlife poaching have come to light recently, sources said.
