A villager was allegedly trampled to death by a wild elephant at Koovvachal forest, police said today.

The 44-year-old man had gone deep inside the forest on October 14 along with three others for collecting herbals and fuel wood when the pachyderm attacked them.

While the others escaped by climbing on a rock, the victim could not do so, police said, adding that the other people saw the elephant running after him.

Forest department officials made an extensive search to trace him and found his body today, they said.
