Woman alleges rape in moving car in Mumbai's Dharavi area

A 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a moving sport utility vehicle (SUV) in central Mumbai, police said today.

According to the complainant, the incident took place on Tuesday, said A B Pawar, senior inspector of Dharavi police station.

The victim, a widow who lives in Nallasopara on the outskirts of Mumbai and works with a private firm, told police that she had gone to suburban Bandra for shopping on Tuesday afternoon.

On the way back, she took an autorickshaw to Bandra station. The rickshaw driver dropped her in Dharavi slum area and asked her to walk north-wards to reach Bandra station.
 

The accused, who were in an SUV, offered her a lift. After she got in, two men inside raped her in the presence of the driver and another man, she told police.

Later they dropped her near Dharavi T junction around 10.15 pm where she spotted police constables and was taken to Dharavi police station.

Police said some suspects were being questioned but nobody has been arrested so far.
