Woman offered lift, raped; accused held

A youth has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Yunuspur village in neighbouring Shamli district, police said today.

The accused Vishva Kumar was arrested and a case has been registered against him, SHO Munesh Kumar of Pukhtaghari police station said.

According to a complaint lodged by the woman's husband, when she was waiting for a vehicle at a bus stand last evening, the accused came on a bike and offered to drop her to her village in the district.

But instead, the accused took her in a sugarcane field and raped her, police said.

The woman has been sent for medical examination, they added.
