Woman run over by train, suicide suspected

A 38-year-old woman was run over by a suburban train near Malad station today, police said.

Police, however, suspect that the victim, identified as Dipti Jain, might have committed suicide as she was upset over not having child even after 18 years of marriage.

A senior RPF officer said the incident did not appear to be a case of falling off the train and that the matter is under investigation.

The incident occurred in morning when Jain was standing on the tracks near Malad railway station when she was knocked down by a local train.

A case of accidental death has been registered and Jain's body was sent for postmortem.
