A 45-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was attacked by a bear near Paravaikadu forest area, about 60 km from here, police said.
The woman was walking along the road with her family late last night after arriving at this tourist town from Coimbatore when the bear suddenly appeared from behind a bush and attacked her.
The family members raised an alarm following which the bear went back to the forests, forest department sources said.
The woman has been hospitalised.
Meanwhile, a group of people today picketed the main road here, demanding that the forest department trap the bear.
They withdrew it after forest department officials assured them that it would be done, police said.
