Woman worker dies in mishap at industrial unit;family protests

A woman worker of a private industrial unit at Thattanchavady died of injuries when her dupatta got entangled in a machine after which her family members staged a road roko today demanding a probe into the incident.

The 20-year old woman of the unit at the industrial estate in Thattanchavady was pulled into the machine and suffered severe injuries yesterday, police said.

She was rushed to the premier health institute JIPMER where doctors declared her brought dead.

Parents of the woman and other residents of her locality blocked the road, refusing to accept the body and insisted that the government hold a probe into the incident.
 

Demanding compensation from the company, they also wanted the government to review safety measures in industries.

Police intervened and assured them that their demands would be considered following which they dispersed, a police officer said.
