Work on to make Baruipur a police district

Aiming to gain some administrative advantage, West Bengal government was working towards turning Baruipur into a police district.

A senior official at the Home Department said though the matter is at a very initial stage, a complete survey report has been readied on the matter.

"This is to gain some administrative advantage. But the matter is at a very early stage and we are working on it," a senior official of the Home Department told PTI today.

Baruipur is now a part of South 24 Parganas district.

Talking about chances of converting the town into a commissionerate, the official said Baruipur has no proper urban area and that is needed for a place to merit such a status.
