Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today joined the World Environment Day celebration by planting hundreds of saplings at Hollongi check gate after inaugurating it.

Khandu also planted over 200 saplings of fruit species along with school children at the Art of Living centre.

Stating that the state with two national parks, 13 wildlife sanctuaries and three tiger reserves has a unique binding with nature, the chief minister asked the people to think and care about the environment.

He stressed upon the need to involve colleges, schools and universities to create awareness and education about nature among students.

The chief minister urged the people to avoid unplanned development and destruction of natural resources particularly forests.

Damage to nature due to essential developmental activities be compensated by tree planting and other conservation measures, he said and asked the forest department to take compensatory afforestation on top priority.
