Youth Affairs would be made a separate department in the state and all necessary posts would be created to handle it and prepare a better Youth Policy, the state government said today.

Stating this here, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij said that a new Youth Policy would be framed within one month "to save the youth from drugs and other bad habits".

He said that there is a need to rejuvenate the Youth Affairs Department "which is on the verge of shutting down due to negligence of the previous government".

Vij was addressing the participants during the inaugural function of 21st State Level Youth Festival, organised by the department at the War Heroes Memorial Stadium, Ambala Cantonment today, an official release said here.

Vij said that officers concerned have been directed to identify specialists related to youth affairs and convene a meeting with them so that a better Youth Policy could be framed by incorporating suggestions of all.

The minister said that the cultural heritage of the state is very rich and it needs to be promoted.

He said talents would be polished and opportunities would be provided to them through better platforms.
