A 23-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead her girlfriend's maternal uncle after her family prevented the accused from meeting her.

The accused, identified as Mohd Amaan, a resident of Shahanjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh was arrested last night from Khajuri Chowk area following a tip off.

The incident took place on October 20 when police got a PCR call around 2:15 AM that firing has taken place in Vijay Park.

When SHO Bhajanpura along with a team reached the spot, they found a woman identified as Fatima along with his son Gajanfar.

Fatima told police that Amaan had come to her house around 12:30 AM. He knocked at the door and wanted to meet her daughter. The woman said she did not open the door and called her brother Uvesh Khan to tackle the issue.

"Uvesh Khan reached the spot with his friend Naved and took Amaan in a lane in front of Fatima's house and tried to reason with him. However, Amaan got angry and said that he will not spare anyone who will come between him and his girlfriend and started firing in the air," R A Sanjeev, DCP (North-East) said.

He then took Uvesh with him on gunpoint. Around 4 AM, he rang up the girl and asked her to meet him failing which he was going to kill her maternal uncle.

"Despite repeated requests by the girl to spare his uncle, Amaan shot him twice in his head and chest. He also made her hear the gunshots over phone. On getting the information, police team rushed to the spot and shifted Uvesh to GTB Hospital in PCR Van where he was declared dead," said Sanjeev.

Police had registered a case of murder and a hunt was launched for his arrest which finally succeeded yesterday. Police have also recovered a country-made pistol along with two live catridges from Amaan.
