A 25-year-old youth allegedly axed his father to death following an altercation over a petty issue in Punasia village under Gurabandha police station in East Singhbhum district, police today said.
Baliram Murmu had a quarrel with his father Masaan after they returned home from Tusu Mela in an inebriated state late last night, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Musaboni), Ajit Vimal said.
During the altercation, both picked up axes and were about to attack each other but neighbours separated them.
While Masaan Murmu was pacified, Baliram was not and he hit his father with the axe, killing him, Vimal said.
Baliram has been arrested.
