Chatra Zila Parishad chairperson Mamata Devi wanted by police to know about the assets accumulated by her husband, a TPC self-styled commander, has surrendered before a court here, a police officer said Thursday.
Devi surrendered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Hazaribag, on Wednesday after going underground for 18 months. The court remanded her to 14-days judicial custody.
The police have moved the court to take her into custody for interrogation.
Devi was wanted by the police to know about the assets accumulated by her husband Kohram, a self-styled commander of Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC). Kohram was arrested by police in January last year, Hazaribag Superintendent of Police Mayur Patel said here.
Kohram was wanted by police in two dozen criminal cases, the SP said. Kohram had accumulated more than Rs 2 crore by extorting money from contractors engaged in development of roads and other projects in Hazaribag and Chatra districts.
The police had seized Rs 50 lakh from Kohram's Hazaribag residence during raids.
The Hazaribag police have sealed Devi and Kohram's house at Ramnagar here, the SP said.
