In the second quarter of FY'13, the company had posted a net profit of Rs 55.1 crore. In the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, the company had posted a net loss of Rs 42.96 crore.

Total income during the quarter increased to Rs 2,710.16 crore from Rs 2,020.78 crore in the same period of the previous financial year, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Indiabulls Financial Services, a non-banking finance company (NBFC), reported a 31 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 327 crore for the quarter ended December 2012, on the back of healthy home loan demand. Aided by loan book growth of 30 per cent during the period, the company&rsquo;s net interest income also rose 21 per cent to Rs 544 crore.

Proxy advisory firms that advise institutional investors have questioned consumer goods major Hindustan Unilever&rsquo;s (HUL) decision to increase the royalty payments to its Anglo-Dutch parent, Unilever Plc. According to the firms, HUL&rsquo;s move will enrich the foreign promoters disproportionately and harm the domestic minority investors. They have also demanded various protection measures such as approval of minority investors, review by independent directors and even provision for clawback of the payout. HUL shares fell 2.9 per cent to Rs 481.55 on Tuesday on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

HUL's royalty increase catches flak

The country&rsquo;s largest consumer products company, Hindustan Unilever (HUL), on Tuesday reported a sixteen per cent rise in net profit to Rs 871 crore during the quarter ended December, much lower than the Street estimates. This was thanks to lower consumer spends, mainly in discretionary categories. The FMCG major&rsquo;s volume growth was down to five per cent, from 9-10 per cent in the year-ago period. Its net sales rose 12 per cent during the quarter to Rs 6,655 crore.

HUL struggles with low volumes

After riding a crest for much of 2011-12, consumer goods company Hindustan Unilever (HUL) now appears to be struggling, thanks to lower consumer spending, mainly in discretionary categories. Also, the company has signed a new agreement with parent Unilever Plc under which its royalty payment would rise to 3.15 per cent of sales by March 2018 from 1.4 per cent now.
