England vs India Day 2 Highlights: India started Day 2 of the first Test vs England at Headingley, Leeds in style, as their vice-captain Rishabh Pant completed his record-breaking century to keep India up and running for the first hour of the day. However, in the second half, England made a strong comeback, removing four Indian wickets for just 24 runs to get themselves back in the match. Skipper Shubman Gill (147) was removed by Shoaib Bashir, Rishabh Pant (134) was dismissed by Josh Tongue, while Ben Stokes sent back Karun Nair (0) and Shardul Thakur (1), as India finished the first session at 454 for 7.
England continued to attack in the second session as they removed Jasprit Bumrah (0) in the third over after lunch, with Josh Tongue also dismissing Ravindra Jadeja (11) and Prasidh Krishna (1) in the next over to bundle the Indian innings out for 471.
The start of England’s innings was briefly delayed due to rain. However, once it began, things were less than ideal for the hosts as they lost their first wicket in the very first over—Bumrah got Zak Crawley (4) caught in the slips. Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett then added 103 runs for the second wicket in the session, as England finished the second session with 107 for 1 on the board.
England started the third session in similarly attacking fashion, but it was once again Jasprit Bumrah who halted their progress by cleaning up the stumps of Ben Duckett (62). Ollie Pope (100*), then brought up his 9th Test hundred and added 79 runs for the third wicket before Bumrah removed his partner Joe Root (28), helping India claim their third wicket of the day. England finished the day with the scoreboard reading 207 for 3, trailing by 263 runs in the first innings. Pope and Brook are the two batters still at the crease for the hosts.
