India vs West Indies HIGHLIGHTS 2nd Test, Day 3: Campbell-Hope steer WI to 173/2 at stumps

A century run-stand in the middle by Hope and Campbell has cut India's lead to less than 100 runs now as they would hope to continue the same on Day 4 tomorrow.

Day 3 of the Test between India and West Indies turned out to be one of resilience and resurgence, as the visitors produced their most confident and composed batting performance of the series. After being forced to follow on and losing two early wickets, the West Indies fought back superbly, thanks to a stellar partnership between Shai Hope and John Campbell.

Earlier in the day, Kuldeep Yadav continued his impressive form with the ball, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul to wrap up West Indies’ first innings for 248. India, firmly in control at that point, enforced the follow-on and looked primed to push for a victory before stumps. The decision initially paid off, with two quick wickets falling and the visitors reeling.

However, what followed was a determined counterattack. Shai Hope and John Campbell batted with a refreshing mix of application, positivity, and intent, compiling the highest partnership of the series for West Indies. The duo was proactive against India’s spinners, often using their feet and sweeping with authority, disrupting lines and lengths and shifting some momentum in their favour. Their 100-run stand came at a critical juncture, offering a glimpse of the side’s growth and grit.

Hope, who notched up a long-awaited Test fifty, his first in 32 innings, played with composure and confidence. Campbell, too, brought up a career-best Test score, showing tremendous patience and shot selection across over 130 deliveries faced.

India’s bowling, so sharp earlier in the day, seemed to lose steam in the final session. Jasprit Bumrah’s late introduction could be seen as a missed opportunity, as the surface still offered some uneven bounce and movement. Moreover, the hosts were uncharacteristically sloppy in the field, with misfields and dropped intensity allowing West Indies to settle in.

The pitch, which has flattened out, continues to support batting, and if the West Indies can build a lead on Day 4, they may yet find a way to test India’s resolve. Their goal now will be to add quick runs, maintain the pressure, and extend this momentum, one session at a time.

As it stands, West Indies closed Day 3 at 156/2, with Campbell unbeaten on 82 and Hope on 57, trailing by 66 runs. It was a day where India dominated early, but the fightback from the Caribbean side has injected renewed life into the contest.
