SIR of electoral rolls begins in Chhattisgarh

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls began on Tuesday across Chhattisgarh with booth-level officers (BLOs) initiating a door-to-door drive to distribute enumeration forms. According to SIR schedule, enumeration forms will be filled from November 4 to December 4. The draft voters list will be published on December 9 and claims and objections can be raised between December 9 and January 8.

Cong leader urges EC to act against BJP minister Shelar for "divisive" remark on voters' list

Congress leader Nitin Raut on Tuesday urged the Maharashtra Election Commission (EC) to take a strict action against minister Ashish Shelar over his appeasement politics barb, calling it a violation of election laws and model of conduct. Shelar on Monday claimed that Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray were practising appeasement politics by only pointing out duplicate Hindu voter names, while ignoring similar cases with Muslim electors. Raut, who represents the Nagpur North assembly constituency, filed a complaint against the EC.

Telangana Human Rights Commission seeks comprehensive reports on deadly road accident

The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) on Tuesday took suo motu cognisance of the deadly road accident in Ranga Reddy district and sought comprehensive reports from the NHAI and several key government departments, including Transport and Home. The Commission, headed by its Chairperson Justice Shameem Akther, directed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Telangana Road Transport Corporation (RTC), the departments of Transport, Home, Mines and Geology and the Collector of Ranga Reddy district submit factual and action-taken reports by 11:00 am on December 12.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday hit the streets of Kolkata, leading a protest rally against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Banerjee's party, the ruling Trinamool Congress, has dubbed the exercise “silent invisible rigging” by the BJP-led Centre and the Election Commission. Accompanied by her nephew and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, the CM began the 3.8-km rally from the statue of B R Ambedkar on Red Road.

Renault CEO calls for flexibility on EU CO2 targets

Renault boss Francois Provost said on Tuesday no carmaker in Europe can meet emission targets on vans or cars by 2030, calling for flexibility on the European Union's CO2 targets. Speaking at an event organised by French car body PFA, Provost added Renault should be able to reduce its production of utility vehicles by the end of 2025 or early 2026 without impacting its broader European targets.
