If the AAP is voted to power in Delhi again, his top priority would be to provide employment opportunities to youngsters, party supremo Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday. Addressing a "janasabha" in the Vishwas Nagar Assembly constituency ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly polls, Kejriwal said, "The biggest work I am going to do is on employment. I will arrange employment for our youngsters. Providing employment to our youngsters will be my top priority." During his address, the AAP national convenor also highlighted the achievements of his party's government in Delhi over the last 10 years, including providing free electricity, water and quality healthcare to people, as well as improving the condition of government schools.
The Sealah court sentenced Sanjay Roy to imprisonment till death on Monday after he was convicted of the rape and murder of an on-duty doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. “The CBI prayed for the death penalty. The defence lawyer prayed that a jail term be given instead of the death penalty… this crime does not fall under the rarest of the rare category,” the judge said.  Zomato reported a smaller-than-expected third-quarter profit on Monday as its margins continue to face pressure from high spending on opening more centres to fulfil orders at its quick commerce platform, Blinkit.  After being forced to shut down briefly on Sunday due to “national security concerns,” TikTok restored services to its users in the United States after President-elect Donald Trump assured that he would pause a federal ban on the app after assuming power on January 20. The order also directed TikTok's China-based parent company, Bytedance, to cut ties with the app's US operations.
The Mumbai police will likely recreate the crime scene at the Bandra home of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who was repeatedly stabbed by an intruder, an official said. The accused in the high-profile case, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man, was arrested on Sunday morning from neighbouring Thane city. A court here remanded the accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, in police custody for five days. According to the official, police will likely take Shehzad to Khan's home in Satguru Sharan' building during these five days to recreate the crime scene as part of their investigation. Shehzad sneaked into the Bollywood star's apartment in the early hours of January 16 with the intention of theft, police had said.
The first three hostages were released from Gaza and the first Palestinian prisoners were freed from Israeli custody as the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took hold following 15 months of war, with mixed emotions and more difficult steps ahead over the next six weeks. Palestinians across Gaza began making their way home, and the first trucks with a surge of humanitarian aid began to enter the devastated territory. The ceasefire that began on Sunday morning raises hopes for ending the devastating conflict and returning the nearly 100 remaining hostages abducted in Hamas' Oct 7, 2023, attack.

RG Kar verdict: Bengal Guv calls for stronger measures for women's safety

In the backdrop of a Kolkata court pronouncing life imprisonment till death for the prime accused in the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday said that judicial punishment is important, but it would not be able to address broader societal issues contributing to increasing incidents of violence against women.

Bose also asked the government to launch a drive to create awareness in society about women's security and alert the law enforcement machinery to take timely and decisive action against atrocities on women.

Punishment, no matter how severe, does not end the problems. The rising incidences of rapes, assaults, and murders are alarming and reflect a deeper societal malaise, Bose said in a statement.

BJP hits out at Siddaramaiah govt over Karnataka's absence in Davos

BJP state president B Y Vijayendra on Monday hit out at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for Karnataka's absence at World Economic Forum in Davos, alleging that the Congress government has no roadmap, urgency or attempt to reclaim the state's lost glory of being the 'Startup Capital of India'.

Taking to the social media post 'X', he accused that even after Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka lost the prestigious title of 'Startup Capital of India' to Maharashtra, the government remains in a deep slumber.

Their inaction speaks louder than words. No roadmap, no urgency, no attempt to reclaim the state's lost glory, he said.

"Adding insult to injury, Karnataka is absent from WEF (World Economic Forum) 2025 in Davos, where other states like Maharashtra, AP, TN, and Telangana are pitching for global investments. Congress's priorities are clear: freebies over future, stagnation over innovation," he alleged.

Accusing the Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka of "Zero Development Sarkar," he said that the Congress had failed the state.

"From leading India's tech revolution to missing on the global stage, @INCKarnataka apathy is pushing Karnataka into irrelevance," he further alleged.

"For five years, Jagan was your foster son and a mere rubber stamp, endorsing every bill in Parliament. You used the YSRCP to your advantage for five years, plundering the state, only to now shed crocodile tears over the devastation caused under its regime," Sharmila wrote in a post on X.
