Fair trade regulator CCI on Tuesday cleared Bajaj Group's proposed acquisition of a 26 per cent stake each in its insurance joint ventures, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, from its partner Allianz SE for a total of Rs 24,180 crore.
"The proposed combination involves acquisition of 26 per cent paid-up equity share capital of Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company Ltd (BALIC) and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Ltd (BAGIC) by Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BFS), Bajaj Holdings & Investment Ltd (BHIL) and Jamnalal Sons Pvt Ltd (JSPL) from Allianz SE," the regulator said in a release.
BFS is engaged in the provision of financial services, including consumer and SME finance, housing finance, general insurance, and JSPL is a private limited company incorporated under the provisions of the Companies Act, 1913.

The death toll due to lightning strikes in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra has gone up by 28 to 76 in 2024 compared to the previous year, officials said.
As per an official report, 48 people had died in 2023 in all eight districts of Marathwada due to lightning strikes.
The total number of fatalities due to flood and other monsoon-related calamities also climbed by 47 to 126 in 2024, it said.
The highest number of 15 deaths in 2024 due to lightning strikes was recorded in Latur district, followed by Jalna (12), Beed (11), Parbhani and Nanded (10 each), Dharashiv (4) and Hingoli (3).

Maharashtra has reported two COVID-19-related deaths since January this year, the state health department said on Tuesday.
In a release, the department said both fatalities were reported from Mumbai and involved patients
with comorbidities (simultaneous presence of two or more medical conditions in a person).
One of the deceased had nephrotic syndrome with hypocalcemia seizure, while the other was a cancer patient, it said.
The release said a total of 6,066 swab samples have been examined for coronavirus since January, of which 106 tested positive for the infectious disease. Of these, 101 were from Mumbai and the remaining from Pune, Thane, and Kolhapur.
Currently, 52 patients are undergoing treatment for mild symptoms, while 16 are being treated at hospitals, said the department.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday returned the Finance Bill 2025 to the Lok Sabha, along with 35 government amendments, including one that abolishes a 6 per cent digital tax on online advertisements, thus completing the 2025-26 budgetary exercise that started on February 1.

Replying to the debate later in the evening, she said the tendency of the finance ministry would be to exercise caution and not let go of revenues.
"But, here we wanted to use this opportunity to show our respect for Indian taxpayer. We have moved towards setting Rs 12 lakh as threshold up to which no one will have to pay any tax," Sitharaman said.
