Myanmar prepares polling stations as campaigning draws to a close

Yangon, Nov 06 (ANI): The election staff and volunteers in Yangon moved ballot boxes into classrooms on Friday to set up a polling station for the election November 8. After classes on Wednesday, the janitors swept the floors and moved desks to make way for ballot boxes and other equipments. The Election Commission representative for the Golden Valley Quarter 1 area, where National League for Democracy (NLD)'s leader Aung San Suu Kyi is registered, said that they were ready for the 4,000 registered voters.
Late on Wednesday, the NLD held its last major rally in Yangon before the end of the campaigning on Thursday. Hundreds wearing red t-shirts danced and sang in support of the NLD and its leader Suu Kyi. Around 30 million of Myanmar's population of 51 million is registered to vote. Suu Kyi is the favourite of many voters and her party is expected to do well in the polls, but she is banned by the Constitution from becoming the President.
