Russia on Monday claimed its deadly missile attack on Ukraine's Sumy that killed and wounded scores including children had targeted a gathering of Ukrainian troops, while European leaders condemned the attack as a war crime.
Ukrainian officials have said two ballistic missiles on Palm Sunday morning hit the heart of Sumy, a city about 30 kilometres from Ukraine's border with Russia, killing at least 34, including two children, and wounding 119. It was the second large-scale attack to claim civilian lives in Ukraine in just over a week.
Asked about the attack, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia's military only strikes military targets. Russia's Defense Ministry said the strike targeted a gathering of senior military officers and accused Kyiv of using civilians as shields by holding military meetings in the city's centre.
The ministry claimed to kill over 60 troops. Russia gave no evidence to back its claims.

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) on Tuesday reported a 30 per cent year-on-year growth in its operational capacity to 14,243 megawatt in FY25.
The operation capacity will increase further to over 15,000 megawatt (MW) with an additional 1,000 MW nearing its completion, AGEL said in an exchange filing.
The company's operational capacity stood at 10,934 MW in 2023-24.
Operational solar capacity increased to 10,103 MW from 7,393 MW in FY24, while wind capacity grew to 2,000 MW from 1,401 MW a year ago. The hybrid capacity remained unchanged at 2,140 MW.
Energy sales increased to 27,969 million units (MUs) in FY25 from 21,878 MUs in FY24.
The sale from solar projects increased to 16,738 MUs in FY25 against 11,046 MUs, while that of wind rose to 3,834 MUs compared to 3,188 MUs in FY24.
Energy sales from hybrid also increased to 7,397 MUs from 7643 MUs in FY24.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has approved Rs 30 crore in honoraria for 8,427 pastors for seven months, the government said on Thursday.
The honoraria, amounting to Rs 35,000 for each pastor, cover the months from May to November 2024, according to an official release.
"CM Chandrababu Naidu has given the green signal to release Rs 5,000 per month to 8,427 pastors," the statement said.
The release also noted that the Andhra Pradesh government announced this decision on the eve of Good Friday, calling it "good news for pastors.

Days after diamantaire Mehul Choksi was arrested in Belgium, the CBI approached a court here seeking a Non-Bailable Warrant against him in another case where he and others are accused of cheating a Canara Bank-led consortium of Rs 55.27 crore.
Choksi, a prime accused in the alleged multi-million dollar Punjab National Bank fraud, was arrested in Belgium on April 12 following an extradition request by Indian probe agencies.  The Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the Canara bank cheating  case, approached the special CBI court here on Wednesday seeking an NBW against him.
However, judge V P Desai sent the matter to a magistrate's court, saying his court had no jurisdiction.
The judge cited a Supreme Court judgement which states that for a special CBI court to try a case under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, there must be alleged involvement of a public servant.  In the present case, the charge sheet was filed only against private persons for offences under Indian Penal .
