The state government has begun showing doors to non-serious investors as the industry department has initiated process for cancelling of approvals for 33 investment proposals. The list also contains proposals from  heavyweights like Parle, Dhampur Sugar and Rajshree Sugar.It has now asked all investors, whose projects have been cleared by State Investment Proposal Board (SIPB), to submit progress reports. If sources are to be believed, the state government is planning to cancel approvals of many more such investors. The new Information and Communication (ICT) policy will have provisions for attracting the investors both from the software and hardware industry.â€œInstead of having separate policies for the software and hardware, the new ICT policy will have provisions needed to attract the investors in the ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing) sector,â€ said an official in the state IT department.As per the estimates, the demand for electronics in India was $45 billion in 2008-09 and it is expected to touch $400 billion by 2020. The Union governmentâ€™s National Policy on Electronics has set a target to attract an investment of around $100 billion and create employment of around 28 million by 2020.The decision to make a single policy was taken at meeting of a 15-member panel formed to finalise the stateâ€™s new ICT policy.The guidelines for the ESDM sector will be in line with the policy of the Union government, added the official.

After faulting the Odisha government for entering into MoUs (memorandum of understanding) with private players without any policy or guidelines, the office of the Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) has raised serious concern on delay in commissioning of thermal power projects.The Central auditor observed that independent power producers (IPPs) that signed MoUs with the state government slipped on their commitments to ensure timely completion of their projects. This deprived the state of achieving a power surplus status, it pointed out.â€œThe audit officials checked file records of IPPs. They have pointed out slippages in timelines by IPPs in project execution.
