Uttar Pradesh government is committed to timely selection of teachers for basic, secondary and higher educational institutes and an integrated service selection commission will soon be set up for the purpose, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday. While reviewing the teacher recruitment process in educational institutions in the state, Adityanath also gave necessary guidelines regarding the formation of 'Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission' as an integrated commission, according to an official statement. Different authorities, boards and commissions operate for the selection of qualified teachers in basic, secondary, higher and technical educational institutions of the state, the statement said. Protesting against the recent ban on women's education in Afghanistan, a large number of Afghan Americans have pledged to fight against this atrocious policy of the Taliban government. Students across the country will be taught the "corrected" version of Indian history under the National Education Policy (NEP) from Vasant Panchami on January 26, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Tuesday. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday formally launched free computer tab loaded with Byju's content to over five lakh Class VIII students at Yadlapalli in Bapatla district. Addressing a public gathering, Jagan said around Rs 686 crore was spent to distribute 5,18,740 tabs loaded with Byju's content free of cost to 4.59 lakh Class VIII students besides teachers, which can be used even in offline mode. The cost of each tab with content is Rs 32,000. The State government's intention is to facilitate digital mode education to enable students to learn easily in classrooms and at home as well. The distribution of tabs will continue for one week across the State and it will be a yearly event, he said. Describing any increase in GST on goods related to education a step against the interests of the students, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday opposed the proposal of considering the GST on pencil sharpeners at 18 per cent instead of existing slab of 12 per cent. A parliamentary standing committee has expressed disappointment over the majority of national institutes for the disabled having much less faculty members than their sanctioned strength. The panel's report on social justice and empowerment on the 'review of the functioning of national institutes established for different types of disabilities' was tabled in Lok Sabha on Friday. The committee is "disappointed" to note that the faculty members in most of these institutes are much less in comparison to their sanctioned strength. Insufficient faculty even in those Institutes which were established decades back is an alarming revelation. The situation at Composite Regional Centres (CRCs) is also not good, the report said. "For instance, the sanctioned strength for all the CRCs of the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities is 26, out of which 20 posts are vacant," the report said. The Rajasthan government is set to enact a law establishing a regulatory authority to keep tabs on private educational institutes including coaching centres, ensuring that they open counselling cells, end glorification of toppers and deal with the kind of stress that possibly led to three students committing suicide recently. The draft law proposes aptitude tests for students before they join a coaching centre for competitive exams, and a helpline if they find that they cannot face the stress. The Rajasthan Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Bill - 2022, which has been in the making since 2020, is likely to be introduced in the next session of the state assembly. It covers schools, colleges as well as centres, like in coaching hub Kota, that prepare students for competitive exams. Recently, three students studying at a Kota centre committed suicide, allegedly because they could not cope up with the pressure of studies there. The draft bill also seeks to regulate tuition .
