Facilities at Bharat Mandapam to promote conference tourism: MICE industry

Facilities at the world-class convention centre - Bharat Mandapam - in the heart of the national capital will help promote conference tourism and growth of the MICE industry in the country, a top government official said on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 26 unveiled the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC)) complex at Pragati Maidan. He named the 123-acre complex, that will host the G20 Summit in September, Bharat Mandapam. It is India's largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. Briefing media about the complex, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal said that after the G20 meetings, the facilities here would help in promoting "conference tourism and that is an important tourism for us". US President's Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry will travel to New Delhi and Chennai from July 25 to 29, an official statement said on Monday. The purpose of the presidential envoy's visit is to advance shared objectives on climate and clean energy, including mutual efforts to build a platform for investments in renewable energy and storage solutions, support the deployment of zero-emission buses, and diversify clean energy supply chains, the State Department said. Convergence among G20 members on key issues except Ukraine conflict: MEA

India on Thursday said there has been high degree of convergence among the G20 nations on all key developmental issues but differences persist on the Ukraine conflict. The comments by External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi came days after the G20 Sherpas held extensive deliberations on the draft leaders' declaration at a three-day meeting in Karnataka's Hampi. G20 Energy Transitions Group takes note of Green Hydrogen Innovation Centre

The G20 Energy Transitions Working Group meeting in Goa took note of the Green Hydrogen Innovation Centre and Global Biofuel Alliance proposed by India, a senior government official said here on Thursday. Union power secretary Pankaj Agarwal, who chaired the meeting, told reporters that there has been significant convergence on hydrogen-related issues. While huge amount of investment is occurring in the renewable energy sector, a large proportion of it goes to developing countries and the rest of the world get hardly any fund, Ajay Mathur, Director General of International Solar Alliance, said on Thursday. Nearly 100 delegates from G20 member countries, special invitees and several international organisations are participating in the fourth Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting which began in Goa on Wednesday. There are six priority areas outlined under India's G20 Presidency, reflecting India's focus on various aspects of energy transition and building global cooperation toward sustainable and clean energy development, an official said. The two-day meeting, chaired by Pankaj Agarwal, the ETWG chair and secretary of the Union Ministry of Power, is being held at a hotel near Goa's capital Panaji. Over 100 delegates from G20 countries will participate in the two-day Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting beginning on Wednesday in Goa to deliberate on building global cooperation toward sustainable and clean energy development. The 4th ETWG meeting under India's G20 presidency will be chaired by Union Power Secretary Pawan Agarwal, a power ministry statement said.
