IFAWG meet in Goa aims to give voice to low income nations: Official

The third International Financial Architecture Working Group (IFAWG) meeting set to begin in Goa on Wednesday will aim to give a voice to low income and developing countries that are not part of G20 and highlight key concerns of the Global South, a senior official said. Addressing a press conference here, Anu Mathai, Advisor to Department of Economic affairs said the two-day meeting will be steered by the Union Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India and will co-chaired by France and South Korea. "More than 100 delegates from G20 countries, various international organisations have arrived to take part. During the two day long deliberation, the Indian G20 Presidency strives to give a voice to low-income and developing countries that are not represented at the G20 table and highlight issues of key concern to the Global South," Mathai said. G20 meeting on Int'l Financial Architecture to start on June 5 in Goa

The third meeting of the International Financial Architecture Working Group (IFAWG) of G20 will be held in Goa between June 5 to 7, an official said on Sunday. He said the meeting will explore ways to improve the international financial architecture and address the pressing issues faced by the global economy. The IFAWG is one of the important work streams under the G20 Finance Track with a focus on strengthening international financial architecture. "The 3rd IFAWG meeting in Goa is a crucial opportunity for G20 to advance the reforms of the International Financial Architecture and address the global challenges of the 21st century. Goa: StartUp20 Engagement Group delegates condole Odisha train tragedy

The two-day meeting of the StartUp20 Engagement Group, part of India's G20 presidency, culminated in Goa on Sunday with delegates expressing solidarity with victims of the Odisha train accident. At least 288 people were killed and more than 1,100 injured in the crash involving Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train took place on Friday evening near the Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha's Balasore district. Goa will create 12 co-working spaces called 'Sea Hubs' alongside the beaches to provide a conducive work environment to professionals and also offer them an opportunity to rejuvenate amidst the natural beauty of the coastal landscape, state minister Rohan Khaunte has said. The aim is to provide a healthy work-life balance through this facility and other innovative concepts, the information and technology minister said at the ongoing StartUp20 Engagement Group meeting in Goa on Saturday. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said Manohar International Airport at Mopa will soon handle cargo operations, which will help the coastal state's pharmaceutical sector. The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January this year and is named after former Goa CM late Manohar Parrikar. Addressing industrialists at a function in Panaji in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Sawant said handling of cargo from Manohar International Airport will ensure pharmaceutical units will not have to depend on other states. State Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said having two airports, in Dabolim and in Mopa, was helping tourism. AAP dissolves Goa executive committee; party to undergo complete revamp

The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday dissolved its Goa executive committee, a senior AAP leader said. The move is aimed at revamping the party's state unit, AAP's Goa president Amit Palekar said. Palekar said AAP's national general secretary Dr Sandeep Pathak has issued the orders dissolving the executive committee, though he continues to hold his position. The state leaders from the Arvind Kejriwal-led party recently visited Delhi. The party has said that it would contest both the seats in the coastal state in next year's Lok Sabha elections. Goa to host Clean Energy Ministerial, Mission Innovation meetings in July

The 14th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM14) and 8th Mission Innovation (MI8) meetings will be held in Goa in July this year, officials said. Goa CM Sawant hands over catamaran built by a private shipyard to Maldives

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday handed over a catamaran built by a private shipyard here to the Maldives government. The 30-metre long vessel named "Thinaaveshi", built by Vijai Marine Services, was handed over to representatives of the Maldives government at a function here. This is the largest catamaran vessel built in India, Sawant claimed. "Handing over of this vessel to the ministry of environment, climate change and technology of Maldives indicates the strength of the 'Make in India' initiative," the chief minister said. Goa's shipping industry has been contributing to this sector since 1961. Sawant said, adding that handing over the catamaran to the Maldives government is a proud moment for the state. Representatives from the Maldives government will take the vessel to their country on Tuesday. Goa Investment Promotion Board approves 10 projects worth Rs 348 crore

The Goa Investment Promotion Board (IPB) on Wednesday approved 10 projects with a proposed investment of Rs 347.93 crore, state Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said. Sawant, who chaired the meeting of the IPB, said these projects will generate employment opportunities for 3,495 individuals. "The Goa Investment Promotion Board approved 10 different industrial projects with a proposed investment of Rs 347.93 crore. Of these 10 projects, four are for the expansion of manufacturing capacity in the existing units, while three are new units proposed by the existing manufacturing companies in the state," the chief minister said in a press conference after the meeting. One of these three proposed units is a Goan start-up that will manufacture All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) and Unprotected Transport Vehicles (UTVs) for the defence sector. The Goa government believes the modified interest rebate scheme, notified on Tuesday, will create a conducive environment for entrepreneurs, boost employment opportunities, and drive overall economic growth in the coastal state. Low-cost airline IndiGo will run a direct flight from Goa to Dehradun (Uttarakhand) connecting both the tourist destinations from May 23. The flight between Manohar International Airport (Mopa) in Goa and Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) in Uttarakhand will be operated by IndiGo.
