Maharashtra launches advanced cyber centre to fight online offences

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday inaugurated an advanced cybercrime command centre in Navi Mumbai and said it would enhance online security in the state. The deputy CM said the centre is the result of the transformative Maharashtra Cyber Security Project that the state undertook to tackle the growing number of fraudulent schemes on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook and other cyber threats. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, this centre will significantly alleviate public fears surrounding cyberattacks, he said, calling the initiative a comprehensive effort to safeguard citizens from cyber threats. Govt floats tender for new Shivaji statue in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg

In the wake of collapse of the Shivaji Maharaj statue in Sindhudurg, the Maharashtra government has issued a tender for the construction of a new 60-foot-tall statue there, nearly twice the size of the previous one, officials said on Wednesday. The statue will be built at a cost of Rs 20 crore and the government has set a six-month timeframe for the completion of the work, they said. A 35-foot-tall statue of the 17th century Maratha empire founder, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajkot fort in Malvan tehsil of Sindhudurg district on December 4 (Navy Day) last year, collapsed on August 26 amid strong winds. The statue's sculptor, Jaydeep Apte, was later arrested. The government has faced flak as the opposition parties alleged the decision to install the statue in Sindhudurg was taken haphazardly, which resulted in poor quality of work. Adani group has won a bid to supply 6,600 MW of bundled renewable and thermal power to Maharashtra for the long term after its quote of Rs 4.08 per unit beat the likes of JSW Energy and Torrent Power, sources said. Its bid for the bundled renewable and thermal energy supply for 25 years was almost a rupee lower than the cost at which Maharashtra currently procures electricity and will help meet future electricity requirements of the state, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter said. Supplies are to start in 48 months from the date of award of the letter of intent. As per the bid conditions, Adani Power will supply solar power at a fixed cost of Rs 2.70 per unit throughout the entire supply period, while that from coal will be indexed to coal prices.
