Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Monday said "elective merit" will be taken into consideration while allocating tickets to candidates for the next Lok Sabha elections. He also said the decision about the Shirur Lok Sabha seat, currently represented by Amol Kolhe of NCP, will be taken after discussion with senior leaders. In the 2019 polls, Kolhe defeated Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil of Shiv Sena (undivided) which contested in alliance with BJP. Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar on Saturday defended the decision of opposition parties to skip the inauguration of the new Parliament building, stressing that MPs were not taken into confidence on it. Maharashtra Nationalist Congress Party president Jayant Patil, whom the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned for questioning on Monday in a money laundering case, said one faces such sufferings for being part of the opposition. NCP slams govt on Rs 2,000 notes withdrawal, says citizens being harassed

The Nationalist Congress Party on Friday slammed the Union government over the announcement by the Reserve Bank of India to withdraw Rs 2000 denomination currency notes from circulation. The RBI announced withdrawal of Rs 2,000 currency notes from circulation and said existing notes in circulation can either be deposited in bank accounts or exchanged by September 30. "What has the government achieved by introducing the Rs 2000 note and what is it going to now achieve by withdrawing these notes. Demonetisation was hailed as a big success. If that was the case, what is the reason for the withdrawal of Rs 2000 currency notes," asked NCP national spokesperson Clyde Crasto. Several person lost their lives after demonetisation was announced in November, 2016 and the Union government must answer why citizens are being harassed with such decisions, he said.

Maharashtra home department should probe if violence is deliberate: NCP

The Maharashtra home department should investigate whether recent incidents of violence follow any pattern or happened out of misunderstanding, state Nationalist Congress Party chief Jayant Patil said on Tuesday. Maharashtra witnessed communal clashes on Saturday and Sunday in Akola city and Shevgaon village in Ahmednagar district, respectively, in which one person was killed and 13 others injured. In another incident, members of a different religion allegedly tried to force their way into the famous Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik, prompting the state government to set up an SIT. The home department should look deeply into the frequent incidents wherein riot-like situations prevailed and take steps accordingly.
