Nevada will hold prez primaries and caucuses, creating voter confusion

The presidential primary campaign heads west to Nevada this week, where duelling caucuses and primaries are creating confusion among voters but little uncertainty about the expected results. Nikki Haley will run in Tuesday's Republican primary, which won't count for the GOP nomination, while Donald Trump is the only major candidate in Thursday's Republican caucuses, which does. The split races have effectively relegated the third state on the GOP calendar to national irrelevance. The former U.N. ambassador has rejected the caucuses as unfair and set up by the state party to deliver a victory for the former president. Her campaign balked at the $55,000 fee the Nevada GOP was charging candidates to participate in the caucuses. We have not spent a dime nor an ounce of energy on Nevada. We made the decision early on that we were not going to pay $55,000 to a Trump entity to participate in a process that is rigged for Trump, Haley campaign manager Betsy Ankney told reporters on Monday. .

Trump deploys his playbook against women, for now, it's Nikki Haley

Hillary Clinton. Nancy Pelosi. Kamala Harris. Liz Cheney. Carly Fiorina. And for now, Nikki Haley. The former South Carolina governor is the latest in a long line of women historically some of Republican Donald Trump's most stubborn challengers for whom the former president saves a special playbook. It's centered around intimidation, combined with a now-familiar brand of vulgarity, nicknames and other insults he deploys for men, too. But where he tries to emasculate his male opponents, Trump works in put-downs about the appearance of women, their emotional balance and their intelligence. He mispronounces their names. He seemed to confuse two politicians who are women. And he questions their right to challenge him. Trump's nickname for Haley, a Republican who served as his own ambassador to the United Nations, is Birdbrain." Who the hell was the impostor?" Trump railed after the New Hampshire primary against Haley, who acknowledged his victory but has refused to drop out of the GO

US Elections 2024: Nikki Haley coins new slogan 'Make America Normal Again'

Indian-American Republican presidential candidate on Tuesday coined a new slogan -- Make America Normal Again -- as her campaign enters the critical phase ahead of the GOP's South Carolina Primary on February 23. "Our campaign has been flooded with notes and emails from folks across the country who want to make America normal again. They know that we can do better than two 80-year-old names from the past. I'm fighting every day to make you proud let's go!" Haley said as her team launched an aggressive campaign in her home state of South Carolina. The two-term governor from South Carolina, Haley, 51, is trailing by more than 30 points against former president Donald Trump in her home state where the Republican presidential primary is scheduled for February 23. She is confident of making a strong showing in the South Carolina primary and then moving to Super Tuesday states in March. "From California to North Carolina, from grandmothers to young parents, these Americans are tired of J

Despite 2 losses, Haley tries to claim victory thus far in president race

Despite losing both Iowa and New Hampshire to Donald Trump,Nikki Haley is nevertheless trying to frame those losses as a victory and vowing to head off a coronation of Trump as the 2024 Republican nominee. The path through the next states to vote, however, may not be any easier. We were thrilled, Haley said during a rally before hundreds of sign-waving fans on Wednesday night in North Charleston, South Carolina, casting her second-place New Hampshire finish as a win given how little support her campaign had in its early days. We got out there, and we did our thing and we said what we had to say, and then Donald Trump got out there and just threw a temper tantrum," Haley added, referencing Trump's primary night remarks in which the former president repeatedly insulted her in a speech far angrier than his remarks after his Iowa victory. Haley did perform better in Tuesday's New Hampshire primary than she had in the Iowa caucuses a week earlier, where she finished third, well behind .

Trump wins New Hampshire GOP primary despite strong showing by Nikki Haley

Donald Trump won the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday, tightening his grip on the Republican presidential nomination and bolstering the likelihood of a rematch later this year against President Joe Biden. The result was a setback for former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who invested significant time and financial resources into winning the state. She was the last major challenger in the race after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ended his presidential bid over the weekend, allowing her to campaign as the sole alternative to Trump. Haley intensified her criticism of the former president, questioning his mental acuity and pitching herself as a unifying candidate who would usher in generational change. The appeals failed to resonate with enough voters. Trump can now boast of being the first Republican presidential candidate to win open races in Iowa and New Hampshire since both states began leading the election calendar in 1976, a striking sign of how rapidly Republicans have rallied around

Trump seeks control of GOP primary in New Hampshire against Nikki Haley

Donald Trump is aiming for a commanding victory on Tuesday in New Hampshire, securing a sweep of the first two Republican primary races that would make a November rematch with President Joe Biden look more likely than ever. The biggest question is whether Trump's last major rival, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, will be able to eat into his margin or pull off an upset outright. Haley has dedicated significant time and financial resources to New Hampshire, hoping to appeal to its famously independent-minded electorate. In the first results released early on Tuesday, all six registered voters of tiny Dixville Notch cast their ballots for Haley over Trump. The resort town is the only one in New Hampshire this year that opted to vote at midnight. Trump won New Hampshire's Republican primary big during his first run for president in 2016, but some of his allies lost key races during the midterms two years ago. Haley also has to contend with an opponent who has a deep bond with the GOP

South Carolina representative Nancy Mace backs Trump over Nikki Haley

Donald Trump has picked up another endorsement from Nikki Haley's home state of South Carolina, with Rep. Nancy Mace backing the former president in this year's GOP presidential primary. Mace had stayed out of the 2024 Republican primary as two fellow South Carolinians Haley and Sen. Tim Scott entered the race last year. On Monday, a day ahead of the New Hampshire primary, Mace told The Associated Press that she was backing Trump over Haley, who lives in her congressional district and supported her in 2022 against a Trump-backed challenger. I don't see eye to eye perfectly with any candidate. And until now I've stayed out of it, Mace said. But the time has come to unite behind our nominee. The South Carolina Republican's backing comes as Trump angles to bolster his dominance thus far in Republican balloting, following his record-setting win last week in the Iowa caucuses. Over the weekend, Trump was joined by a slew of South Carolina leaders as he campaigned in New Hampshire, see

Nikki Haley questions Trump's mental fitness as he confuses her for Pelosi

Nikki Haley on Saturday questioned whether Donald Trump is mentally capable of serving as president again after he repeatedly seemed to confuse her with former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a campaign speech. As she campaigned in Keene, New Hampshire, Haley referenced Trump's speech the night before, in which he mistakenly asserted that Haley was in charge of Capitol security on January 6, 2021, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the building seeking to stop the certification of his loss to Democrat Joe Biden. Trump first said that Haley turned down security offered by his administration on Jan. 6 and then again mentioned Haley, adding, They destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything, deleted and destroyed all of it. Trump, 77, has accused Pelosi of turning down security he says his administration offered, but a special House committee empaneled to probe the attack found no evidence to support that claim. They're saying he got confused, that he was .

Ex US Prez Trump mocks Haley's first name; refers to her by her first name

Former US president Donald Trump has lobbed racially charged attacks at his Indian-American Republican rival Nikki Haley by repeatedly referring to her as Nimbra", in an apparent intentional misspelling of her birth name. Trump's attack against Haley, a daughter of Indian immigrants who served as his UN ambassador, comes days before a hotly contested New Hampshire primary that could determine the trajectory of the party's presidential nomination contest. Haley, 52, whose parents moved to the United States in the 1960s, was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa. The former South Carolina governor has long used her middle name Nikki and adopted the surname Haley after her marriage in 1996. But Trump, 77, repeatedly referred to Haley as Nimbra in a rant on his Truth Social account, adding her to the list of foes he has targeted with racist attacks. He also insisted she doesn't have what it takes to be president. Reminiscent of his spurious claims about former president Barack Obama's citizen

Haley vs Trump in New Hampshire as DeSantis withdraws from next primary

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signalled that he would largely bypass the New Hampshire primary next week and instead would focus on South Carolina where the Republican presidential primary is scheduled for February 24. The move makes it a direct contest between former president Donald Trump and Indian American Nikki Haley for the crucial Republican presidential primary in New Hampshire on January 23. The latest poll released Wednesday showed that Trump and Haley are tied in this State with both polling 40 per cent each. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has endorsed Haley. Trump won the first Republican presidential caucus this Monday by bagging more than 51 per cent of the votes. DeSantis came second with over 21 per cent of the votes and Haley followed him with 19 per cent of the votes. On Wednesday the DeSantis campaign signalled that it would largely skip campaigning in New Hampshire and instead pour its entire resources and energy into South Carolina, which also happens

I am the only candidate who can avert 'Trump-Biden nightmare': Nikki Haley

Indian-American Nikki Haley, who finished third in the Iowa caucuses, has said that she is the only Republican candidate who could take on frontrunner Donald Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden and avert a "Trump-Biden nightmare". The Iowa caucuses on Monday formally kicked off the beginning of the long process by which the Republicans and Democrats choose their nominees for the presidential election on November 5. Haley, the former US Ambassador to the UN, came a close third with nearly 20 per cent of the votes polled. Former US president Trump won the caucus with more than 50 per cent of the votes, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 21 per cent. Fellow Indian-American Vivek Ramaswamy secured 7.7 per cent of the total votes polled and suspended his presidential campaign. The two-time South Carolina governor said her presidential campaign is the best hope to avert a rematch between Trump and incumbent President Biden, a Democrat, in the presidential ...

I am not interested in VP post, says presidential candidate Nikki Haley

Indian-American senior Republican Party leader Nikki Haley, the lone woman in the party's presidential race, has said she is not interested in being the vice president, asserting that she's running to be the next US president and is contending "to win". Haley's remarks came ahead of the Iowa caucuses on Monday, which formally kicks off the beginning of the long process by which the Republicans and Democrats choose their nominees for the presidential election on November 5. Replying to a question about how she felt about some voters saying they would prefer her as a vice president rather than a president, the 51-year-old former US Ambassador to the UN said, I don't play for a second. I've never played for a second. I'm not going to start now." "I'm not interested in being vice president. I'm running to be president, and I'm running to win, and we will, the former South Carolina governor said in a CBS News interview. With the Republican contest to choose the nominee for the November

Trump, Haley campaign in Iowa in final days before Republican caucuses

Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley pushed across ice-cold Iowa Saturday to find voters open to an alternative to former President Donald Trump with just two days before the state's caucuses open the Republican primary calendar. Trump, the heavy front-runner in Monday's caucuses, opted for tele-rallies after canceling larger in-person events due to a blizzard blanketing much of the state, but he remained confident as he looks for a big victory to blunt the potential rise of any rival. Shortly after arriving in Des Moines, Trump held a livestreamed town hall-style event hosted by Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, one his top Iowa backers. It's nasty out there, he said of Iowa's icy conditions. He confessed to some worry that weather could dampen turnout Monday but said his supporters will walk over glass to support him. Perhaps more important than the margin of Trump's expected victory is whether either of his remaining top rivals can claim a clear second-place finish and gain momentum as

Haley, DeSantis quickly tear into each other's records in Republican debate

Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis called each other liars and insulted each other's records and character in the opening minutes of Wednesday's Republican primary debate, underscoring the high stakes for each of them with less than a week before the Iowa caucuses. We don't need another mealy-mouthed politician who just tells you what she thinks you want to hear, just to try to get your vote and then to get in office and to do her donors' bidding, DeSantis said in an early barb. "He's upset that his campaign is exploding," Haley said in her reply. The former UN ambassador directed viewers to a website her campaign created chronicling what she said were DeSantis' lies. The Florida governor in turn tried to send people to his website, where he said he collected "all the greatest hits of Haley's false statements. Standing at lecterns an arm's length apart, DeSantis and Haley both sought a strong debate performance in Iowa without their lower-polling rivals by their side to lift their campai

Haley accuses Biden of giving offensive speech where mass shooting occurred

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley took aim Monday night at the Democrat she'd like to face in the November election, calling it offensive that President Joe Biden gave a political speech at the South Carolina church where nine Black parishioners were slain in a 2015 racist attack. For Biden to show up there and give a political speech, it's offensive in itself," the former United Nations ambassador and South Carolina governor said during a town hall on Fox News in Des Moines, Iowa. "I don't need someone who palled around with segregationists in the '70s and has said racist comments all the way through his career lecturing me or anyone in South Carolina about what it means to have racism, slavery, or anything related to the Civil War. Biden was in Haley's home state Monday, delivering jabs at some of his possible GOP general election opponents without naming them. He took the pulpit at Mother Emanuel, a historic AME church in Charleston where nine Black parishioners were .

Nikki Haley draws more attacks from Republican rivals after town hall

Nikki Haley's rivals for the Republican presidential nomination are ratcheting up their attacks on her as Iowa's first-in-the-nation voting draws closer. The barbed news releases, attack ads and amped up back-and-forth come as the former South Carolina governor and Florida Gov Ron DeSantis battle for a distant second place to former President Donald Trump with less than two weeks until Iowa's leadoff caucuses. DeSantis and Haley each appeared on CNN Thursday night for separate town halls in Iowa. For months, Trump has trained his focus on DeSantis, who has long argued that he's the party's best chance at unseating Trump from atop the field. But in recent weeks, Trump's campaign has increasingly shifted its target to Haley, calling her a sellout and criticizing her stances on taxes and the US-Mexico border. Her campaign on Thursday said Trump's attention to Haley, who served as his United Nations ambassador, reflects his concern that she is gaining on him. DeSantis, who is preparing

Nikki Haley leaves out slavery when asked about reasons behind Civil War

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley was asked Wednesday by a New Hampshire voter about the reason for the Civil War, and she didn't mention slavery in her response leading the voter to say he was astonished by her omission. Asked during a town hall in Berlin, New Hampshire, what she believed had caused the war the first shots of which were fired in her home state of South Carolina Haley talked about the role of government, replying that it involved the freedoms of what people could and couldn't do. She then turned the question back to the man who had asked it, who replied that he was not the one running for president and wished instead to know her answer. After Haley went into a lengthier explanation about the role of government, individual freedom and capitalism, the questioner seemed to admonish Haley, saying, In the year 2023, it's astonishing to me that you answer that question without mentioning the word slavery. What do you want me to say about slavery?" Haley ..
