Thoothukudi: Section 144 lifted; normalcy returns amid air of uneasiness
Thoothukudi district administration has lifted Section 144, which prohibits assembly of more than 4 people in an area, after the situation has started coming back to normal in the town.The district and its neighbouring areas were severely affected by protests over environmental concerns due to the protest, which turned on May 22 claimed 12 people life and injured many after police opened fire on anti-Sterlite protestors, who were demanding the factory to be shut alleging that it is hazardous. Following day another round of shouting was reported during which one more person was died taking the death toll to 13.To avoid any further violence, the district administration ordered for Section 144 and Home Department disconnected internet connection which had hit normal life in the districts of Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tiruneveli in Southern Tamil Nadu.Things have started coming back to normal, after the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has ordered closure of the Vedanta Sterlite ...
