MeitY asks Meta to review content algorithms and check misleading content

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has asked Meta to review how Instagram and Facebook recommend and rank content, ensuring misleading posts, manipulated visuals and out-of-context material are not disproportionately amplified. The advisory flags unverified claims, misleading footage related to law-and-order situations and content that could incite violence. IT Ministry sources said agency reports raised concerns about algorithms favouring certain narratives. Meta has been asked to strengthen content moderation, cooperate with law enforcement and immediately inform the ministry about action taken.
